A Step-by-Step Guide to Your Eye Test
Welcome to Victoria J Smith Opticians! We understand that visiting the opticians can feel a little overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time. To help you feel more comfortable, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide so you know exactly what to expect.
1. Arriving At Our Practice
When you arrive, you’ll see our practice front. This is where your eye test will take place! First, you and your parent or carer will walk inside and let the receptionist know you’re here. They’ll be happy to see you! After that, you can relax in our children’s play area while we get everything ready for your appointment.
2. Meeting the Optometrist
When it’s your turn, we’ll invite you into our eye exam room. You’ll meet your friendly optometrist, who will explain what’s going to happen. You can ask any questions, and if you feel nervous, that’s completely okay! Your parent or carer can stay with you the whole time.
3. Sitting in the Big Chair
Now it’s time to sit in our special big comfy chair—it’s like a throne just for you! This is where we’ll check your eyes and make sure they’re healthy.
4. Answering a Few Questions
Your optometrist will chat with you and your parent about your eyes. They might ask if you ever get blurry vision, sore eyes, or headaches. You can answer as much or as little as you like.
5. Checking How Well You See
Next, we’ll check your vision using a special chart. But don’t worry—if you don’t know your letters yet, we have fun pictures and shapes instead! You might even get to wear some cool glasses or a pirate patch to help us test each eye.
6. Watching a Fun Video
Did you know that at Victoria J Smith Opticians, you don’t have to stare at a boring chart? You can watch a video instead!
7. Checking Your Eye Health
Now it’s time to take a closer look at your eyes. We use a special microscope (it doesn’t touch your eyes) to make sure they’re nice and healthy. Sometimes, we take a photo of the back of your eye—like a selfie for your eyeballs!
8. Eye Drops (Only If Needed!)
Sometimes, we might need to put some special eye drops in to help us see your eyes better. These drops might make your vision a little blurry for a short time, but don’t worry—we’ll explain everything first. If you’d like, your parent or carer can hold your hand or give you a hug while we do this.
We want your visit to be as easy and stress-free as possible. That’s why we use visual storyboards and clear step-by-step explanations to show you what to expect. If you have any special requests or need extra time, just let us know—we’re here to help!
We look forward to welcoming you soon!
