Jenny Hinxman, Optometrist.
Jenny graduated from Bradford
University in 1991 and went on to do her pre-qualifying training at Manchester
Royal Eye Hospital. Jenny was lucky enough to be offered a full time post there on
qualifying and stayed there for the next three years.
Itchy feet got the better
of Jenny and she headed off on her travels around the World in 1995. Rather
unintentionally, when she arrived in Australia Jenny landed a job at a small
optometry practice in Melbourne and stayed there for the next four years.
Arriving back in the UK in 2000, Jenny has worked as a locum optometrist ever
since, initially mainly for the larger companies but she is now fortunate to work
solely for small independent optometrists. During this time Jenny also worked for
10 years, part-time, at Chesterfield Royal Hospital where she particularly
enjoyed roles working within the paediatric clinic and the satisfaction of
helping patients with low vision. Jenny's interest in low vision lead her to do a
course in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment), however life events, the
arrival of her daughter, meant she was unable to finish the course, but it has
given her a greater understanding of the needs of those with a visual
impairment.
Outside of work, Jenny now lives in the Peak District with her husband, daughter and smooth collie. Jenny enjoys long walks in the
country on her days off. and also runs twice a week with friends and practise
pilates. On a more leisurely note, she can’t resist a good book.
