Choosing the best optician for your Child's eye care is an important and personal choice. Our aim is to encourage parents to bring their children for regular eye examinations with our informal and friendly approach allowing families to enjoy a calm and welcoming atmosphere.
We have a childrens play area and plenty of magazines and tea/coffee for parents.
Victoria Smith, our optician, is fully trained and experienced in paediatrics testing and if glasses are required we have a great range of frames to choose from.
The NHS provides a free eye test for every child age 16 or under, or 19 and under in full time education.
Usually it shows a child s eyes are healthy and normal and we will send you an annual reminder for future eye examinations.
If your child requires glasses, we can issue a NHS voucher. We provide a FREE range of frames and lenses for children but also have RAYBAN, WOLF, OK, EYESTUFF AND LAZER JUNIOR frames for an additional cost.
Your children's glasses will be fitted with plastic, breakage resistant lenses. Whilst they may be adequate for most purposes, other materials such as polycarbonate are stronger, virtually unbreakable and therefore safer. They may attract a small price premium but this must be weighed against your child's likelihood of breaking their lenses.
A scratch resistant coating can also be added to your child's lenses which can reduce the amount of scratching to their lenses.
Children often do not like wearing spectacles and contact lenses offer the freedom from spectacles for sport and play. Modern contact lenses are often suitable for children of most ages.
Routine examinations should start around age 2 or school age - it is not necessary for children to be able to read to have their eyes tested. We use a range of age appropriate tests to check eyesight and can also detect other problems such as squints, lazy eyes and colour vision defects.
